Many a senior golfer would not resist the temptation to skip golf fitness workouts, using their age as an excuse. And at first glance age would seem to be a genuine excuse to avoid golf fitness workouts.

After all golf fitness workouts, as most people seem to believe, are supposed to be very strenuous programs where even dumb bells are used.

So how do you tell that you are too old for golf fitness workouts?

The answer to that question is really simple. If you are too old to play golf then you are probably too old for golf fitness workouts.

I regularly work with 80 year old golfers who comfortably go through golf fitness workouts, dumb bells and all. It is also probably appropriate to add here at this juncture that I also regularly work with youngsters barely in their teens.

Both groups of persons are able to dramatically improve on their game with the help of golf fitness workouts.

Golf fitness workouts are not any more rigorous and punishing than the game of golf is. Remember that the work outs are golf specific, meaning that they are specifically designed to help strengthen and condition the very muscles used in golf.

It is definitely not a boxing or body building fitness workout. Workouts for those sports reflect the rigorous and physically demanding aspects of those sports. In the very same way that golf fitness workouts reflect the requirements of the game of golf.

The dumbbells are usually used for strength training because this is the most efficient equipment anywhere for building strength quickly hence their inclusion in the best golf fitness workout routines.

The idea is never to lift heavy weights over long periods of time. Rather the objective to condition and strengthen golf muscles using lighter weights lifted over very short periods of time.

If you are not too old or too young for golf, golf fitness workouts are for you.

Collection of golf equipments, such as clubs and balls, started in a big way about 30 years ago. Flea markets and garage sales are still hotbeds for collectors of these items, but most of the collectible pieces have nowadays, become very hard to come by as avid collectors have most of them in their personal collections. The oldest golf balls, known as feather balls, were used for several hundred years throughout the 1850s. These balls featured leather outer skins actually stuffed with feathers, according to the Collector’s Encyclopedia of Golf Collectibles by John M. Olman. One normally thinks of feathers as soft, however, when the ball is filled with enough feathers to fill a top hat, it becomes quite hard, explains Olman in the text. The “Featheries”, as they were also called, with a manufacturer’s mark are most valuable and desirable ones. They can be worth hundreds or even thousands to the right collector. Even those without a maker’s mark will easily fetch you more than $500.

A new type of golf ball known as a “gutty” by collectors was developed around 1848. These balls were made of gutta percha, a hard rubbery substance made from milky juice obtained from a tree very common in Malaysia. Although they were widely used from the late 1800s till about 1910, not many of these true antiques are extant in the market today. When collectors do come across a gutty ball for sale, they’ll pay at least $100 to own it in most cases. From about 1898 to 1930, rubber core golf balls came to be favored by golfers. These are also collectibles but do not have a high price tag as that of the older balls. Generally selling in the $25 to $50 price range, which is still an exorbitant sum for a little golf ball, people just beginning to focus on building their golf collections often buy these examples. Modern balls (made after 1930) don’t hold much value as of now barring the exceptions of a few novelty and celebrity balls. Hence, as the saying goes- the older the better, is quite right.

Typically, the very mention of the sport Golf evokes responses such as, “Its an expensive game,” “the clubs and equipment is too costly,” “I can’t afford it” so on and so forth. However, golf is not just about money, it’s about passion and desire. While the fact that playing golf can be heavy on the pockets is true, it is also true that there are many affordable ways to play golf. But before getting into the game of golf, it is important for you to be as honest and as committed to the game as possible. After all, the amount of money you spend is related to the level of dedication you have for golf…isn’t it?

An easy way to familiarize yourself, without spending thousands of dollars on golf equipment, is to take a few cursory classes in golf. Learn to swing and putt and generally get a feel of the game. When you begin to start enjoying your lessons in golf, it will be time to pursue the game more seriously and with more dedication. To start with, you will need some golfing equipment. An affordable option for golf clubs is to buy pre-owned clubs. Buying used golf clubs doesn’t mean that you will be sacrificing quality over money. It simply means that you can enjoy golf even if you don’t have the capacity to spend several hundreds of dollars on new golf clubs. A great place to look for some amazing used clubs deals is the internet. Of course, there are many golf equipment or general auction sites as well which allow you to place bids on pre-owned golf club sets.

Before you buy any pre-owned or used golf clubs, you must ask yourself if you need a different type of golf club because of the change in your golf game? If your handicap has risen because you are unable to devote several hours in a week to play the game, you may want to opt for cavity backs instead of muscle backs. On the other hand, if your golf game has improved due to regular and frequent practice, then you may be willing to opt for golf clubs that can further help improve your game. Ideally, you should try to match the level of your game and your dedication towards the game with the playing ability of new clubs.

Another great suggestion to save money and ensure that playing golf remains affordable for your pocket is to only buy as much equipment as you really require. There is absolutely no need to buy every piece of golf equipment available under the sun. The idea is to enjoy the game of golf as much as possible. Step out into the market and you will find some really fantastic bargains on every piece of golf accessory and equipment such as shoes, hats, ball markers, gloves, bags, and whatever else. However, you must be willing to spend time searching in order to find the most affordable golfing accessories and equipment possible to ensure that you not just enjoy your game, but make it a fun and great game too!

Are you ready to get away and play some great golf courses? Do you want to take the whole family so they can get away and relax also? There are two different options for family golf vacations that work really well. You can plan for either one of the following options and please everybody in your family.

The first option is to take a family vacation that includes golf for you. This would be the option for the families that only have one or two members that enjoy golf. The idea behind this option is to set up your tee times so that they don’t interfere with other family activities. You want to be able to play the amount of golf you want to play, but you also want to relax with your family. This is how you can do that.

Plan your vacation to a destination that will have something that the whole family will enjoy. This could be a beach, a resort with a nice pool, or anything else that is going to be close by that everybody in the family likes. Then, find yourself a couple of golf courses that are close by and schedule your tee times for the morning. That way the members in your family that don’t golf can sleep in while you are golfing and you will be done in time to enjoy time with your family. You may need a short nap in the afternoon, but you can take your nap while everybody else is at the beach or the pool and still have plenty of time for the family.

The second option is for families where all the members want to golf while on vacation. Even if you have younger children you can enjoy this option for a family golf vacation. Book your trip as you normally would, but when you set your tee times take into account whether or not members in your family will want to sleep in or not. You may even want to go with late afternoon tee times since it will be cooler and they are usually a bit discounted.

The last thing you want is a grump out there while you are golfing so if you have to go with later tee times to make sure everybody is up and happy, then do it. If you have younger children you might want to pack some snacks and a few short activities to keep the entertained if they start to get bored. Also, make sure you pick children friendly courses to play because not all courses welcome children and the last thing you want is a course that is going to look down on you for trying to get your kids involved in golf.

Now you have to great family golf vacations that you can take to many different destinations. Make sure to keep all your family members in mind when you are planning your trip and ask about dress codes and policies at the courses so you won’t be surprises when you arrive.

Any golfer that plays seriously should have some level of golf insurance. If you are wondering why you need it, it is surprising the number of golfers that are not insured specifically for the game they play. Sure, your normal life insurance policy will cover you if the unthinkable happens on the course, but would your medical insurance cover you for injury, or your home insurance pay out for clubs lost or damaged at the course?

A specialized golf insurance policy will cover you for everything to do with golf at a lot lower cost than if you took out a general insurance to cover you for the same eventualities. You might think that golf is a reasonably safe game to play, assuming that you avoid being hit by a ball, but there is more to golf insurance than just protecting against a wayward shot.

Here are some of the things you should be considering.

  • No matter how good a golfer you are, you are always at risk of injuring somebody on the course, whether it is another player or a bystander. Whether you have shouted ‘fore’ or not you are legally liable for any injury you cause unless you can prove negligence on behalf of the person you have injured.
  • It has been stated in court that golfers are responsible for shots they play that cause injury to others, irrespective of the degree of risk. Your household insurance will not cover you for that, and you could face damages that could completely ruin you.
  • Your equipment can be very expensive, and can also be stolen or damaged. Unless you have your clubs, for example, specifically included in your household insurance as stated items, then you will not be covered for their loss, especially if that loss occurs out of your home such as from the locker room or even from the course. If somebody steals them while you are enjoying the facilities of hole number 19, it will be your responsibility unless you have specifically insured against it.
  • In addition to personal liability, you will likely need personal injury cover. As with auto insurance, if persons causing you injury are not insured themselves, and are not worth suing for damages, you will have to pay for your own medical treatment and loss of earnings. A personal injury policy will look after this for you.
  • You will also be well advised to take out a policy that covers you for damage to property. Not all golf courses are in the middle of nowhere, and many have houses, vehicles and even public roads round the perimeter of the course. One wayward shot through the windscreen of a car, or a house window, will leave you liable for the damage.

Research has indicated that over 90% of golfers are not adequately insured for these eventualities, and are leaving themselves open to having to pay for hospital treatment and restitution of property, of both their own and that of others.

Golf is known as being a potentially expensive game to play, but that cost can rise dramatically if you do not have personal liability insurance, and are not insured for personal injury, damage to property and loss of, or damage to, your golfing equipment. The poorer the player you are, the more at risk you are, and the same is true the more you play. The type of person most at risk of having to make personal liability pay-outs are very keen beginners, so make sure that you are sufficiently insured.

You can also be insured against loss of personal effects at a golf club, and can insure against damage to or loss of your clubs, golf bag and travel case, your balls (golf), cart and even your umbrella. You can insure specifically for death or loss of limbs or sight, as well as for general medical expenses for injuries. Some insurers even allow you to insure yourself against expenses incurred in the case of a hole in one!

You can also get insure to cover your litigation costs in the event that you are taken to court for injuring another person and decide to fight the case. If somebody wanders across the fairway after you have driven your ball, and walks into your ball with their head, then you can argue that you are not liable. Your insurance will cover your attorney’s costs.

This is of particular importance if you are a competition player, in which case you have more than just other players to consider. You have spectators, caddies, officials and volunteers, and also anything that occurs on the practice ranges. Even if claims against you are groundless, you might still have the cost of the investigation to bear.

Quite frankly, if you play golf regularly rather than just during your summer or winter vacation, you should have some form of insurance. Many golfers assume wrongly that their standard household insurance will cover them, but it will not. Common sense dictates that golfers are more at risk of golfing injuries, and of causing them, than non-golfers, so are obviously going to have to pay extra for that type of coverage.

Golf insurance is a necessity for most golfers, and you are well advised to get some unless you are prepared to and can afford to meet the costs of injury or loss yourself.

The game of Golf as we know it has been played ever since 1672 in Scotland. Since that time, it has become very popular. Golf is one of those sports that span a lifetime of playing “the game”.

Golf is one of those games involving ball play that does not have a defined field of play. The golf courses are magnificent but they are all different without even 2 being alike. This is pretty incredible since every other ball sport has a prescribed field of play. (There are some sports that may not follow an exact dimension of playing field but might have to settle for what is available such as indoor polo.) When you think that no 2 courses are alike and there is an estimated 32,000 courses throughout the world, this is simply incredible. Of course this is what makes golf what it is. You can travel all around the country or the world and never play the same game twice.

What about the courses themselves?

• Are you looking for a course near your home?

• Are you looking for a course near a vacation you plan to take?

• Are you looking for a golf vacation and don’t know where to start?

You can pick up the latest copy of one of the Golf magazines and read up on the latest “best” courses as rated by that publication. I received a call a few years back from someone trying to recruit me into his business. Magazine “A” spotlighted that company as the company of the month! I told the caller, that Magazine “A” highlighted whoever paid them the fee. End of Conversation. You want my advice on choosing the right course for your vacation? If you can stand the higher green fees, read the magazines and when you get there for your vacation, there will be the copy of the article under the glass and on top of the glass will be the “New and Higher” green fees. That’s ok if you intend to do nothing else but golf.

If you go on vacation and intend to take in other attractions, find the attractions that you want to see to decide where you want to go. Then look for your golf courses and resorts. Unless you live right there, you will always find courses that you have not played. Even if you vacation there every year, by the time you get back, there will probably be another golf course built anyway! (Just a side note. Can you imagine any publication having enough staff time to play about 8,000 courses, in the United States alone and rate them for their top 100 picks?)

If you are looking for courses right where you live, you can take the time and visit the course and see it for yourself. If you are planning a vacation, this may be a different story. You can do a lot of research on the Internet. Don’t limit yourself to the private courses because some of the public courses are very well maintained. After all, if your travel hundreds of miles for your vacation, I’m sure you will want to “try out” a number of courses while you are there.

As a game, Golf can be quite demanding and a player needs to be constantly in focus. This is a game of patience but the one thing it has always missed is active sponsorship. Games like soccer, basketball and tennis have some big brands like Nike, Adidas, Lotto sponsoring players and equipments but that is not so in Golf. Although off late, some of the tournaments have been sponsored by big brands including Johnny Walker, yet it seems like the sport lacks a lot more in terms of sponsorship.

There is one event that some fans worldwide remember and it is the point where’ The Tank” K.J. “The Tank” Choi was gearing up to take on the final round of the Compaq Classic PGA Tour in 2002. What attracted the fans world over was not his game but the Superior visor that he was seen sporting. It was a perfect platform and moment for Superior to reach out to the world and since the game of golf was being broadcasted in many countries live by BBC, CNN and NBC, Superior was able to find its potential customers. According to marketing experts, Superior was an unknown brand prior to the event but after the event they enjoyed a successful promotional campaign that was worth in excess of 300 billion from that particular tour.

This is an example of sponsorship at its best level. Sponsorship in Golf needs a sound marketing strategy as unlike other competitive sports, Golf doesn’t have a huge fan following. As a sport, it is still a niche. One of the new companies that have entered the world of Golf as a sponsor successfully is ANZ. ANZ has worked its position as a Golf sponsor right to the last detail. They managed to turn the sponsorship of a Golf game into a multitude of different marketing activities and created relationship-building opportunities.

It all started 6 years back when ANZ was working on sponsoring a high profile game, which could get them national as well as international coverage. Another important thing was the target audience. ANZ wanted the sport to reach out to its target audience and after extensive research, they concluded that the sport that could help them achieve their target was Golf and that’s how the ANZ Championship was born. As of today, ANZ has quite a few golf programs like the Team ANZ (players’ squad of male and female players), ANZ Ladies Masters, ANZ Ladies Masters of Business Conference, and ANZ Golf Media Awards. The most important fact is that each of these programs provides them with a platform wherein, ANZ can build there customer relations, marketing, public relations, staff integration and corporate social responsibility.

Sponsorship in Golf is basically two-fold: one is sponsorship of the game itself and the other is sponsoring the golfers and their equipments. Both cater to a global audience. Sponsoring a golfer basically comes down to covering some of the basic costs like sporting goods and equipments, contract fees, and offering various incentives based on the golfers performance. There is much more in terms of sponsorship that can be derived out of Golf as it is slowing becoming a global sport.

Nowadays women as well as men enjoy playing golf. People who want to play golf without injuring themselves need to consider some sort of fitness or exercise program that will improve their general stability, power and strength. Playing a proper game of golf involves paying attention to the above three areas.

If you are new to golf then you should understand that golf is a very strenuous game and because it involves the golfer in taking up some rather unnatural positions there is a lot of potential for serious injury. Exercise programs and golf workouts are designed to drastically reduce the likelihood of serious damage while at the same time improving your general fitness and also your golf game.

Golf workouts that concentrate on flexibility are crucial if you want to improve your golf swing and avoid injuring yourself. You will also need to concentrate on improving your strength as a good swing needs considerable power behind it. One way of improving your golf swing is to develop a golf workout that mimics the swing. Exercises where the emphasis is on your shoulders, core, hips and lower back should be an important aspect of any workout that is designed to help improve your golf swing. To incorporate these into your workout routine you need to work on stretching exercises that are specifically designed to help golfers.

Your aim in improving your swing during your golf workouts is to drive the ball further and straighter than you have done before. Plan what you should be doing during your working out periods, golf swings involve a complex set of movements where the target is to increase your flexibility.

Many golfers use weights or a medicine ball to help them in their flexibility workouts because a certain amount of resistance is needed if you want to improve the power of your swing. To do this properly you need to concentrate on your posture and balance before the swing and then on the rotational moves that you make with your body. Workouts that are specifically tailored to golfers will help you to improve your balance and your swing. You need the resistance in order to take your body past its natural swinging movement and this helps to strengthen your abdominal muscles.

When you work on exercises that are designed to improve your game you need to concentrate on those that improve both your strength and flexibility as this will not only add power to your swing, it will make your swing more consistent. Workouts that concentrate on turning or twisting your body while using a weight is the primary factor in improving your driving distance.

Try to put together golf workouts that can be fitted into your normal routine. You don’t need to visit a gym in order to do some golfing specific exercises. Stretching exercises can be performed whenever you get a short break during the day. Remember that the aim is to find golf workouts that suit you and fit into your lifestyle.
